for a cultural identity strategy and way finding design for Gandhi Bazaar Street Market - Bengaluru


 

Design Themes

A holistic design approach that integrates thematic spatial design ideas for

  • Wayfinding and information systems 
  • Street landscaping 
  • Street furniture design elements 
  • Public artwork and paving
 

Design Goals

  • Conserving the local cultural identity of the traditional and historic bazar street
  • Promoting the street’s economic vitality; 
  • Making it an inclusive, pedestrian-friendly urban common for people; 
  • Designing the street to provide identity and orientation in its context; and
  • Encouraging a sense of ownership for the place among the local community.
 

ELIGIBILITY

  • The competition is open for all Indian nationals to participate in teams having multidisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Professionals and students in the field of architecture, urban design, spatial planning, conservation, landscape design, and other allied fields may form a team to participate.
  • Collaboration with a local community member, a historian, an artist or other urban enthusiasts is encouraged.
  • Persons involved in organising this competition and selecting final proposals, including members of their families, and professional colleagues from their respective organisations, are NOT eligible to participate.

PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES

  • Participants can submit only one entry per team.
  • Any team assisted by a competition organiser or jury member will be disqualified.
 

SELECTION OF WINNERS

One winning entry and two citations will be selected from a pool of shortlisted entries by a review panel. Prize money will be awarded to the winner and citations.

The winning team will get an opportunity to discuss their ideas with the government officials. Ideas from the winning design may be considered in the final proposal which will subsequently be taken up for implementation by the DULT and the BBMP.
